The Echo Ensemble at Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School is a unique vocal group dedicated to close harmony singing. Led by Sean Darrock, the choir was formed in September 2023 as an evolution of a barbershop quartet idea, bringing together students who have trained with him since primary school.

In this Ramsgate Radio audio piece, we listen in as the Echo Ensemble perform at St Augustines Church in Ramsgate, intertwined with interviews with students like Stan, Matthew, Jacob, and Benji, in which they share their experiences of being part of the ensemble, describing the balance between challenge and camaraderie.
Stan, a Year 9 student, reflects on the nerves of singing alongside older students but embraces the opportunity to grow. Matthew, a baritone in Year 11, appreciates the rich harmonies and the emotional depth of their repertoire. Jacob, in Year 13, highlights the stunning acoustics of their recordings, while Benji notes the strong sense of support within the group.

With teamwork at its core, the Echo Ensemble fosters musical excellence and a deep sense of connection through shared performance.
