The Bravest Man is a moving and dramatic retelling of the heroic exploits of Henry Blogg, the most-decorated lifeboatman in history. In an era when celebrity often eclipses genuine courage, this work offers a poignant reminder of the quiet strength and selflessness that define true bravery.

Henry Blogg served as coxswain of the Cromer lifeboat for 38 years, risking his life countless times to save others in peril at sea. This piece focuses on the events of 9th January 1917, a fateful day that tested Blogg and his crew to their limits. The story is brought vividly to life through evocative music and storytelling, capturing the drama, despair, and ultimate triumph of that harrowing rescue.

Commissioned to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Southrepps Chorale, the libretto was written by Paul Rosier, a retired Baptist minister and gifted librettist with deep ties to Norfolk. The music, composed by Douglas Coombes, is performed by the Thanet Chamber Choir under the direction of conductor Greg Tassell, with Dom del Nevo as Henry Blogg, Simon Paisley-Day and Lynn Myhill as narrators, and a talented cast of soloists and musicians.

This recording, captured by Ramsgate Radio at the historic Sailors Church in Ramsgate, adds a meaningful local connection to this timeless story of heroism.

Immerse yourself in the stormy seas of Cromer in 1917 and experience the extraordinary bravery of Henry Blogg and his crew in The Bravest Man.
